The name is half joke, half motif to me. Em because, well, that’s my name. The dash because I like them, use them constantly, and love what they do to a sentence — interrupt, connect, shift the rhythm.

The em dash has also become shorthand for “this was written by AI”, which I find very ironic considering writers have been abusing the thing for centuries. Pick up almost any old novel and start counting ’em.
